As stated in the article by Wesley Fryer that Ken distributed on the pros and cons of blogging, “students learn better and retain information and skills longer when they are actively engaged in the learning process.” There is no doubt that taking time to reflect on learning and why it is important is valuable for all ages. But is blogging the venue for your classroom? Maybe journals do the trick just fine. For those of you who decided yes to blogging, and want to create a blog for your students to converse about their learning online, then I encourage you to create one of your own for your class. Is it easy? Yes! Here’s how:
Go to: www.edublogs.org
Scroll down a little and click on Create your own blog here.
You will have to create a username and password. Your username will be the name of your website. For example, my username is springingforward and therefore my web address is http://springingforward.edublogs.org.
If you decide to venture into the blog world, let me know and I will talk you through setting it up, adding posts, and changing the layout. I believe this is a great tool for you to use with your students in the classroom, during technology time, and even at home. It will not only give students the opportunity to do their own exploration of what they are learning, but will also allow them to read their classmates’ ideas and thoughts as well.
