There was a lot of traveling going on throughout our elementary buildings today. I know that each of you took your students on learning journeys, opening students’ minds to new ideas and experiences. But there are three specific journeys that took place that I would like to share.
Mrs. Lorenzini’s class traveled to Kenya using google earth today. Tracy’s pre-student teacher introduced the students to a class that she interacted with in Kenya this summer. She had pictures of the students, their classroom (both classes had the same name tags on their desks!), the lunchroom (completely outside!) that she shared in a powerpoint. The students compared and contrasted their lives and surroundings with the students in Kenya. Thanks to google earth, they were even able to zoom into the Kenyan City.
Mrs. Dekerillis’s class traveled to places that were peaceful during their writers workshop lesson on peacefulness. Using this slideshow of pictures, the students brainstormed characteristics of peacefulness and then wrote about them during writers workshop.
And finally, Mrs. Babb’s class took quite a journey… using one of our new Elmos (not the fuzzy, red guy, but a document camera that projects real time images) her students traveled into her belly by viewing the newly captured ultrasound picture taken this morning (thanks for this amazing idea, frith!!!). I wish I had recorded her students’ responses when the ultrasound picture went up. They were all so cute and so excited! So that you too can travel, here is the ultrasound picture that I captured with the Elmo today. Click on Comments below to leave a message for Megan, and click on the picture for a larger view.
Megan, it looks the baby is clapping his/her hands to Ms.Dieterly’s beat while practicing for the K-2 concert.

I think so, Diane! Bouncing Baby Babb has heard a lot of our great holiday songs lately!
