ELMO craze.

January 17th, 2008 | Tech Talk |

The ELMO learning lunch was quite an exciting event.  Teachers are chomping at the bit to have their own in the classroom.  Here are some of the ideas the teachers discussed for getting an ELMO of their own:

~ apply for PTA mini grant

~ have an ELMO fundraiser

~ ask the PTA to match whatever funds they make

~ shoot for just getting one per grade level at the minimum

In addition to the ELMO’s ability to project any document or object in real time, there were a few other applications we discussed:

~ the ELMO becomes an instant scanner!  Place a worksheet or picture under the ELMO.  Zoom in.  Take a picture.  Save it and voila!  You have scanned an image in less than 10 seconds.

~ combine the ELMO with the Smartboard software and use the recorder!  Start>Programs>Smartboard software>Smart Recorder.  Press the record button and instantly you are recording anything that is happening on your desktop.  When you are finished, press stop and save! It’s that simple.   If you want to include audio into your recording session, just plug in a USB headphone/mic and give your directions.   An example:

~ science experiments.  Record the experiment that is happening under the ELMO.

~ give directions on how to format a writing assignment.  If a student forgets or is absent, you can have them review what they missed by watching the video on a student computer at a later date.

The sign up sheet for the ELMO is outside of the Tech labs.  Just contact the teacher who has it and schedule a pick up.  Email me with questions.

Note:  If you did not attend the Learning Lunch, then I have not installed the ELMO software on your computer.  If you need it installed, please contact me!
