The COW.

January 17th, 2008 | Tech Talk |

I began my career as a “cow lady” in the fall of 2004.  I had just gotten married and gotten a new last name which was tough enough seeing as no one really knew how to pronounce it, including myself.   My whole identity had completely changed.  I then accepted a job here at Springfield and I was granted the role of keeper of the COW.  COW, of course, being the laptop cart, aka Computers On Wheels.  Oh how clever.  I began introducing this massive cart to teachers and students and while referring to it as the COW, quickly became donned the COW lady.  Students started mooing at me.  Yes, mooing, as I would push, well try to push, this ton of a cart down the hallways, attempting to maneuver it into the elevator and through three feet wide classroom doors.  You know at first, it was a challenge.. being associated to a cow, but you know, I just went with it.  I just decided, I’m going to embrace this COW theme and make everyone crazy with it.  So I painted the COW- with big black spots all over it.  What I did on my Spring Break 2005 by Erin Amann.  What a hit.  I started getting cow themed gifts on my desk.  Cow beanie babies, pencils, and my favorite: the cow print mini skirt.  Hello! I obviously should have done this earlier!

All this to say that yes, I am a Cow lady and now the proud “keeper” of a COW in each elementary building.  Why would you want to use it:

~ it’s a wireless laptop cart that allows you to have 24 students in a classroom working on a computer with internet access wirelessly!  Plug it in, turn it on and you are ready to go.

~COW comes with: headphones for each student, a mouse to plug in if needed, and a printer that each laptop can print directly to.

Sign up for the COW outside the tech lab which is where the COWs will be kept.

Learning lunch topic this week will be the COW and how to use it.
